Photographs take the number one spot with paintings coming in at a close second. However, almost 20 percent of Americans don't have any artwork in their homes.

The first thing to consider when hanging artwork in your house is identifying where the optimal viewing height will be. The second more important consideration is: does that space receive good light?

Any artwork needs a good line of sight to be enjoyed and to make sure people of many heights and sizes can comfortable view the artwork.

You’ll also want to consider the lighting, whether it be natural or artificial light, and how much is needed to properly illuminate the artwork.  If the lighting is coming from natural sunlight, keep in mind that the artwork will only be lit for half of the day and will susceptible to UV damage during that time.

Making a shadow box display frame is a multi-step process involving structural engineering, thematic design, object mounting, and sustainability. When you have a precious object or a series of trinkets and medals, a shadow box art is a great idea to bring all those elements together to convey a common theme with some added dimension.

The shadowbox also serves as protective encasement for these precious objects to preserve the integrity of the objects/artworks for many years to come. If one does not take proper care in designing the shadowbox, the artworks behind the glazing are susceptible to deterioration and damage.

Recently we received a call from a potential customer inquiring about how to order a shadowbox mount of a Squire Stratocaster for a corporate gift. We are a small, locally owned business which allows us to provide outstanding customer service to all our clients and jumped on the opportunity to work on such a cool project.

But there was one catch: they needed it done in less than a week.

At first glance, the Maryland State Flag was very interesting. It appeared to be very old and a bit fragile, so this would be a challange for our custom framing experts here at The Frame Room. The colors and the look of the flag were very specific to a Maryland state flag or possibly a Baltimore city flag. The design of the shadow box was very clean and bright, which was ideal for displaying the flag with good complimentary colors and adequate space.

In this case study, we'll break down each of the steps we made to get this awesomely tattered Maryland State Flag into a customized shadowbox frame.
